MOVIE SUMMARY:
Generally acknowledged as the film that established Alfred Hitchcock as the Master of Suspense, this tightly woven story features Leslie Banks and Edna Best as Bob and Jill Lawrence, a married couple unintentionally involved in an assassination plot while on vacation in Switzerland with their young daughter Betty (Nova Pilbeam). Befriended by French government agent Louis Bernard (Pierre Fresnay), the family becomes embroiled in the dangerous conspiracy when the agent is shot, and as he is dying, divulges his secrets to Bob and Jill.
To prevent the couple from revealing the sinister plan to the authorities, the murderous conspirators kidnap little Betty and abscond with her to London. Bob and Jill follow, knowing only they can stop the hired triggerman Abbott (Peter Lorre in his first English-speaking role) and rescue their daughter from certain death!
